Three held over doorstep 'execution'

Mohammed Yasin

THREE men were today being quizzed over the "execution" of a Birmingham father of five on his doorstep a year ago.

Detectives hunting the gun killers of Mohammed Yasin swooped to arrest the men at their homes yesterday morning.

The men, aged 34, 39 and 40, were being questioned today on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

Mr Yasin, aged 50, was blasted in the head at close range with a shotgun as he answered the door to his flat in Whitehall Road, Bordesley Green, on September 28, 2005.

Police believe the same hitmen targeted Mr Yasin two days earlier, but he jumped from a first floor window to escape.

The arrests came two weeks after West Midlands Police released CCTV footage of two men - one believed to have been carrying a shotgun - seen near Mr Yasin's home.

At the time, police appealed for help to find the gunman and urged anyone who could shed any light on who was behind the murder of Mr Yasin or why he was killed.

The murder has devastated Mr Yasin's family who have put up a £10,000 reward for information leading directly to the arrest and conviction of the killers

A cousin, Nazar Hussain, said: "He was a very gentle person, a very loveable character and a good family man."
