Patients feel fairy much better!

FAIRIES and princesses are mysteriously appearing across the wards of Birmingham Children's Hospital this week.

Rather than magic, it is the Christmas spirit that is gripping patients and nurses alike.

Staff have come up with the idea of Glam Up Day on Friday to cheer up youngsters in the run-up to Christmas.

Local schools and offices are also being invited to take part and dress up in a party frock or fancy dress costume for a donation at their premises on the day to boost coffers for the hospital in Steelhouse Lane.

"Nothing beats getting glammed up for a party, and you can never have too many reasons to dress up," said Karen Stevens, Children's Hospital spokeswoman.

"Glam Up Day is a new fund-raising day when friends in local schools, offices, shops and other work places are being asked to wear their Christmas party clothes for the day and make a donation.

"But it is also aimed at cheering up our little patients with Christmas so close.

"There will be mini-makeovers which will turn little girls into princesses and the hospital will come alive with colour.

"It's just a good excuse to dress up and it should be magical."

Adults are being asked to donate £2 each to glam up and £1 for schoolchildren.

The cash will be pumped into the hospital's fund for equipment, and also to provide entertainment.

For further information on joining in Glam Up Day or to make a donation, contact the fund-raising team on 0121 333 8503 or visit www.bch.nhs.uk.
