Four held over street violence

A MAN was battered unconscious in a street attack in Birmingham city centre.

The 28-year-old victim suffered serious facial injuries in the assault and was discovered slumped unconscious on the ground in Gas Street today.

Police said the man remained in a serious condition in hospital although his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 2.40am today.

Four men were arrested in connection with the incident shortly afterwards.

Two men, aged 17 and 18, were arrested on suspicion of wounding and two other men, aged 29 and 36, were arrested on suspicion of affray. All four today remained in police custody.

The road was closed for forensic tests and reopened at around 5.20am today.
