SIX people, including two children, were taken to hospital after a road smash in the city.

The emergency services were alerted following the two-car crash on Great Lister Street, near the Aston Science Park, in Nechells, shortly after 3.30pm on Sunday.

Firefighters had to cut the roof off one of the cars to get the 36-year-old female driver out. She was taken to Heartlands Hospital with head and neck injuries.

The front seat passenger, in her 30s, was taken to City Hospital with a head injury.

Two children in the back of the car were taken to the Birmingham Children's Hospital for a precautionary check-up for minor injuries.
