A Bumper Brummie £1,400!

Chairman of Birmingham Children's Hospital Joanna Davis, left, Leah Morgan, aged 5, from Wolverhampton, and Birmingham Mail editor Steve Dyson.

IT'S the £1,400 that will help save many young lives in Birmingham.

The Birmingham Mail Charity Trust handed over cash it had pledged to the Children's Hospital as part of our Give A Little, Save A Life campaign.

It is just a chunk of the £12,436 total that flooded in from readers and businesses to buy eight volumetric infusion pumps, which supply tiny patients with exact doses of drugs and fluid.

Mail editor Steve Dyson said: "Each of the pumps costs £1,400 so the Charity Trust was more than happy to support such a good cause and donate enough to buy a complete pump.

"It was also wonderful to see how generous our readers were."

Mohammed Hasnin, of Handsworth, became the face of the appeal after a pump saved his life from a rare illness that causes dangerously high ammonia levels.

The Mail aimed to raise £11,200, but generous readers exceeded that target within nine days.

The hospital's chairman, Joanna Davis, said she was extremely grateful for the donation from Steve Dyson on behalf of the Charity Trust.

"It shows us just how big-hearted Brummies are," she said.

The Children's Hospital is still trying to raise £300,000 towards its new burns unit. For details, call Barbara on 0121 333 8524.
