Shots fired by gunmen at house

DRIVE-BY gunmen opened fire on a house in Birmingham.

Detectives said two shots were fired at the property in Somerville Road, in Small Heath, shortly before midnight.

A silver car pulled up outside the house and the passenger blasted the front door with a shotgun before the driver sped off.

Det Insp Simon Vowles, from Stechford CID, said the occupants, believed to be members of an extended family, were in the house at the time but no one was hurt.

Officers were keeping an open mind about the motive and were today due to speak with the family in a bid to get to the bottom of the incident.

Two men were today "helping police with their inquiries" into the incident.

Det Insp Vowles appealed for anyone in the area at the time who may have witnessed the shooting or seen a silver car speeding from the scene to come forward.

Detectives at Stechford can be contacted on 0845 113 5000.
