Playgroup child 'gouged my girl'

Cara Nolan

POLICE have launched an investigation into claims a girl of three was attacked by another child at a Birmingham play centre.

Cara Nolan's parents said she was left with deep scratches to her face at Hickory Dickory's, in Findlay Road, Kings Heath.

"This girl just pounced on Cara and two other children for no reason," said her mum Tracy, of Station Road, Wythall.

"Cara is traumatised and hasn't been able to sleep alone since. She looks like a dog has attacked her."

Mrs Nolan, aged 42, claimed an older girl thought to be aged around five lashed out as Cara enjoyed a friend's fourth birthday party.

Cara was treated by a doctor for her injuries and it was hoped she would not be left with permanent scars.

"The place was packed to the rafters," Mrs Nolan said.

"I confronted the mother of the girl who attacked Cara, but she appeared not to care."

Mrs Nolan and her 42-year-old husband, Mike, a writer, complained to the centre's management. West Midlands Police confirmed that an investigation had been launched.

Owner Alastair Hick said he was aware of an incident and confirmed Cara had been given first aid.

"I'm not aware of a police investigation and the police have not contacted us," he said.

"When the parents spoke to me they did not inform me of any police investigation."

Mr Hick said staff asked the older girl's parents to leave as soon as they knew of the incident.

"The appropriate first aid was provided by a qualified first aider," he added.
