THE Lady Mayoress of Birmingham took a trip down memory lane to open a new library at her old school.

Sandra Brew returned to Colmore Junior School in Kings Heath, where she used to be a pupil, accompanied by her husband Randal, the Lord Mayor.

Together, they officially opened a new library in the junior school, which will also be used by pupils from the neighbouring Colmore Infants which shares the Colmore Road site.

Teachers and pupils took the occasion to heart by dressing up as their favourite book characters, while the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress arrived in their civic regalia.

The Lady Mayoress said: "Both my mother and I were pupils of the school, so I was particularly looking forward to going there and seeing how it's changed over the last 49 years or so!"

Her husband added: "I would like to congratulate staff at Colmore and everyone involved.

"A school library is at the very heart of a school and the resource it provides is of optimum importance to all its pupils and the accomplishments of the school as a whole."

The project took about 18 months to complete.
