Second man charged over Gran murder

A SECOND man has been charged in connection with the killing of a grandmother in her Birmingham home.

West Midlands Police said the 24-year-old was due to appear before city magistrates today accused of the murder of Mohinder Kaur.

The 81-year-old mother of five suffocated after being gagged in what police believe was a burglary which went awry.

Mrs Kaur was found dead in her flat in Nutgrove Close, Kings Heath, at 3.15pm on Saturday, August 25, by a grandson who called to see her.

Distinctive gold jewellery - including rings and more than 20 gold bangles worth £1,000 - were stolen, prompting police to work on a "burglary gone wrong" motive.

There was no sign of a break-in, leading police to believe someone may have sneaked or tricked their way in, only to be discovered by Mrs Kaur.

The Birmingham Mail joined forces with detectives to run a poster campaign calling on the public to come forward.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "A 24-year-old man is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court today charged with murder in connection to the death of 81-year-old Mohinder Kaur."

Mrs Kaur, who was known to her extended family as Shanti, had three sons and two daughters and more than 20 grandchildren.

A 21-year-old man from Aston has already been remanded in custody charged in connection with Mrs Kaur's death.
