Boost for blind Dave

Trevor Murch from IBP Conex with Dave Heeley

A BLIND marathon runner who is gearing up for a challenge of a lifetime is being sponsored by the firm where his mother and grandmother used to work.

Dave Heeley, from West Bromwich, is aiming to run seven marathons on seven continents in seven days, starting in the Falkland islands on April 7 and finishing with the London Marathon on April 13.

IBP Conex is supporting Dave after staff saw him and his running partner Malcolm Carr running past their Tiptonbased head office during his regular training sessions.

IBP Conex chief executive Trevor Murch said: "We are always keen to support the local community and we were delighted to sponsor Dave in his tremendous endeavour. We wish him all the best."

Father-of-three Dave said: "It's great to have the support of a local company like IBP Conex and their sponsorship will help me raise much needed funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

"My life was transformed by guide dogs and by taking part in this challenge I am hoping to make a personal difference to the lives of blind and partiallysighted people worldwide."

Dave said that his mother, Annie Heeley, and grandmother, Edith Clee, both used to work at Conex, and he was glad of support from a firm his family knew so well.
