Six injured in smash on M-way

TWO people were taken to hospital and a further four injured after a six-vehicle smash on a Midland motorway.

The emergency services were called to the scene between Junctions 7 and 9 on the M42 Northbound, near Coleshill, Warwickshire, just after 12.30pm yesterday afternoon.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the collision involved a lorry, a tanker and four cars.

The driver of the lorry, and one of the car drivers, both men believed to be in their thirties, were immobilised using collars and spinal boards, as a precautionary measure after both complained of neck pain.

Both men were taken by ambulance to Good Hope Hospital.

Four people were treated at the scene with minor cuts and bruises but did not require hospital treatment.

Crews who attended the incident said those involved had a lucky escape and it could have been a lot more serious.

Two lanes of the motorway were closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.
