Van found in PC hit and run

Pc Robin Haddock

POLICE have recovered a stolen van following a serious incident in Bloxwich in which PC Robin Haddock was seriously injured.

The white LDV van was believed to be involved in the collision with the police vehicle in Sneyd Lane on Tuesday .

The van was found burnt out in Ezekiel Lane in Bloxwich around 3.30am on Wednesday. The vehicle has been removed and is being forensically examined.

Inquiries have already found the van had been stolen prior to the incident. Police are appealing to anyone who may know someone, who recently acquired a van and is without it now.

Pc Robin Haddock, 49, was hit by the van, as he got out of his patrol car to speak to its driver at around 3.40am on Tuesday.

He and a male colleague, who was not injured, had stopped the van after it failed to stop at a red light, West Midlands Police said.

The constable, a father-of-four from Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, sustained serious head injuries and remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital. Police continue to appeal for information and are pleased with the response they have received from the public.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Chief Supt Jo Byrne described Pc Haddock as “a popular, highly respected and well regarded officer”, and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information about the vehicle to contact Bloxwich Police Station on 0845 113 5000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
