Lorry hits city petrol station

A BIRMINGHAM petrol station was open for business as usual today after a lorry ploughed into a wall just yards from the fuel pumps.

Muhammed Saheed, 31, was stuck in the garage's cashier section after the lorry smashed into the side of the shop in Alcester Road South, Kings Heath.

The married dad-of-two managed to escape unharmed from the incident this morning at 6am.

Firefighters from Billesley, Bournbrook and Solihull were called out but the wreckage did not catch fire.

Mr Saheed, from Moseley, said: "I heard a loud bang behind me - I thought somebody was trying to break in, it was very scary.

''The door between the shop and the cashier section was stuck - it must have been the impact''.

The shocked cashier was sent home early this morning after his ordeal.

The lorry driver is believed to have been involved in a collision with a car on the road before veering off into the petrol station.

The petrol station was checked thoroughly before reopening at around 8am.
