Girl hurt in car collision

A YOUNG girl suffered serious injuries after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in front of her mother in Birmingham.

The seven-year-old girl was in Hob Moor Road, Small Heath, when the car ploughed into her shortly after 6pm yesterday.

The driver is believed to have sped from the scene leaving the young girl writhing in agony on the ground.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said she suffered a “nasty” laceration to her face, a cut to her foot and a possible fracture to her leg.

The incident happened about 200 yards away from the local ambulance station. The child was taken by ambulance to Heartlands Hospital. A condition check on her was not immediately available.

Police were today hunting the driver. They appealed for witnesses.
