Woman rescued after bike crash

A WOMAN cyclist who crashed off her mountain bike on a steep bank was found by a passing cross country runner who heard her cries for help.

The 29-year-old victim was riding along the bank near Barnt Green Road, Rednal, when she crashed to the ground suffering a pelvic injury and fractured left knee.

It is thought the woman may have collided with a tree and some fencing on her way down the bank and been there for up to three hours before being discovered at 7.40pm on Sunday.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service Urban Search and Rescue Team were called in to assist paramedics rescue the woman.

She was taken to Selly Oak Hospital for treatment.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "An ambulance crew arrived on scene to find the cyclist who had fallen from her bike on a steep bank.

"She was found by a passing cross country runner who summoned help.

"It’s not known how long she was there, but crews were told her last recollection of the afternoon was from around 4.30pm.

"Because of the steepness of the location and her injuries, further help was called for to ensure the woman could be removed from the scene safely."
