Murder probe after DNA test

DETECTIVES investigating the discovery of human remains in a Midland canal have identified the body and launched a murder investigation.

Following DNA tests officers revealed today that the dead man is 31-year-old David Daley.

The grim find was made in the canal near Cannock Road, Wolverhampton, on March 30.

Mr Daley was reported missing on December 8, 2007, from his Darlaston home. His remains were found last month by a member of the public.

A post mortem examination has taken place but investigations continue as to the cause of his death.

Detective Mark Griffiths, leading the investigation, said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who had any knowledge of this man’s whereabouts since early December last year. This inquiry is being treated as a murder investigation."

Anyone with information is urged to call 0845 113 5000 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be given anonymously.
