Yobs punch gran in face in Shard End

A GRANNY was punched in the face by muggers who also attacked her five-year-old granddaughter.

The terrified pair were attacked in Alderpits Road, Shard End.

The muggers, one wearing a hoodie, struck on Tuesday lunchtime, demanding the purse the unnamed granny was holding.

When she refused, one of the louts started to kick the child’s feet and the other punched the woman in the face, bruising her cheek.

The victim then handed over her purse containing less than £30 and the pair made off.

Det Con Gary Burham, from Stechford robbery team, said: "It’s awful that they have assaulted a five-year-old girl in order to steal a purse from her grandmother.

"It was an unacceptable and unnecessary level of violence. Thankfully, the woman has not suffered any lasting damage."

It is thought the young thugs had spotted the victim as they rode along the street on their bikes.

The first is described as white, in his late teens, about 5ft 7ins with a round face. He was wearing a dark hooded top and was riding a dark-coloured pushbike.

He also had a distinctive star tattoo on the back of his right hand.

The second offender was mixed race, in his late teens, 5ft 10in tall and slim and was wearing dark clothing. He was also on a dark-coloured push-bike.n Anyone with information is urged to call 0845 113 5000.
