Police appeal over New Street attack

POLICE have released an image of a man they are trying to trace after a rail worker was attacked at Birmingham's New Street station.

The London Midland worker was assaulted as he challenged a man walking towards the station's ticket barriers.

The man then walked away towards the entrance of the station following the incident at about 4pm on February 13.

PC Andy Buncle said: "Police takes assaults on rail staff extremely seriously. Everyone has the right to be able to go to work with out fear or being attacked or abused in this way.

"We're keen to trace this man who may be able to help police and would like to appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any details that can help police to contact us. The man was described as black, 5ft 8ins, slim, with a thin face and short curly black hair. He wore a cream coloured coat and carrying a blue draw-string bag."

Anyone with information can contact British Transport Police on 0800 405040.
