Axe-wielding raiders hit Hockley Heath post office

MASKED raiders brandishing an axe stormed a village post office and began smashing the cash kiosk as terrified staff dived for cover.

The two balaclava-clad robbers burst into the post office in Stratford Road, Hockley Heath, shortly before 10am on Wednesday.

Shocked customers looked on in horror as the duo rained blows on the kiosk inside the shop in a desperate attempt to access cash while the 53-year-old post-master and a female shop worker cowered inside. But when the raiders failed to smash their way in, they turned their attention to a woman bystander, grabbing her purse and running outside where they also accosted a 64-year-old man by leaping into his Audi Quattro and roaring off leaving their horrified victims to raise the alarm.

The car was found abandoned in Priory Road, Hall Green, at 11.30am later that day and is now undergoing a forensic tests.
