New York-style glamour for film premiere

Sex and the City premiere

A TOUCH of New York glitz and glamour came to Birmingham with the city premiere of Sex And The City.

More than 1,000 fans of the American TV show turned Hollywood blockbuster packed into Broad Street Cineworld last night to find out what had become of Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte since they were last seen in 2004.

But, most importantly, there was plenty of chic on show with the overwhelmingly female crowd dressed to impress, just like their silver screen heroines.

And as if that wasn’t enough, there was even a show of haute couture from fashion students from the city’s Matthew Boulton College. Wendy Cash, aged 35, from Lichfield, said: "I’m a big fan and am really excited. I don’t really go to the pictures that much, but I couldn’t miss this."

Kelly Graham, aged 24, from Erdington, said; "All this glamour’s quite exciting, it’s lovely to see so many girls dressed up."

Even some men had made the effort. Pete Banger, aged 28, from Handsworth, said: "I’ve watched Sex And The City for as long as I can remember and I still try to catch the reruns."

The free entertainment was sponsored by Broad Street Business Improvement District, Retail Birmingham, Jury’s Inn, Harvey Nichols, Ethos and O Bar.
