Beauty contest to find next Bollywood star is launched

GORGEOUS Brummie ladies are to get the chance to sparkle like Shilpa Shetty at a new beauty contest to be launched in the city.

The first Miss Bollywood UK will be attended by A-list celebrities and is co-organised by actor and model Zia Choudhury.

It will also feature a fashion show, showcasing clothes by designers SarvAtelier, who are favoured by Liz Hurley, Aishwariya Rai and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen.

And the winner will get the chance to star in a Bollywood film, receive a year’s modelling contact with a top Indian modelling firm, £10,000 cash, designer outfits and automatically be entered into Miss Universe 2010.

The contest is open to girls of all backgrounds as long as they are single, aged between 18 and 27 and were born in the Great Britain, or have five years continuous residency at the time of entry.

It will be held on August 29 at the International Convention centre and is the brainchild of Kully Kaur, managing director of Mailbox-based PR firm Premier Consulting, and Mr Choudhury, who now runs modelling agency Exclusively Bollywood in Leicester.

Ms Kaur, said: “The contestants will show by example that anyone can achieve anything they set out to do with the right attitude.

“Emphasis is placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning communication skills and setting personal goals.

“Miss Bollywood UK will celebrate beauty, elegance with creativity, abundance of colour, culture and fashion.”

Mr Choudhury said: “This will be a diverse competition as applications will be accepted from all background providing you meet the set criteria.

“We will have people from the fashion, beauty and film industry along with celebrities and the judging panel.”

Contestants will be judged on smile, talent, hair, catwalk, personality and how photogenic they are.
