Taste of Birmingham promises to showcase best of Brum!

THIS summer’s Taste of Birmingham food and drink extravaganza will be a truly Brummie affair with the city’s culinary masters taking to the spotlight.

Kitchen maestros from Birmingham’s three Michelin star restaurants will all be demonstrating their gastronomic skills and mouth-watering dishes alongside at least ten other top city eateries.

The restaurants will be joined by a fourth Michelin-star restaurant, La Becasse at Ludlow, making the festival the most high profile ever. There will be everything from classic French and modern British food to the finest Italian, Indian and Far Eastern cuisine.

Entry prices have also been slashed to bring the festival, staged at Cannon Hill Park from July 9-12, within the budget of as many food lovers as possible. A family of four will be able to get in for just £20 – half the cost of last year.

The official launch of Taste of Birmingham 2009 takes place tonight at the University College Birmingham (formerly Birmingham College of Food). But the Mail understands the new organiser, Marketing Birmingham, has taken the widely-supported decision to axe TV celebrity chefs and remove them from Brum’s Taste menu.

It is felt Birmingham has now got its own shining culinary stars – including superlative chefs such as Glynn Purnell, Luke Tipping, Richard Turner and Andy Waters, all of whom will be at Taste of Birmingham 2009 – and doesn’t necessarily need celebrity cooks. Last year’s event featured appearances by Antony Worrall Thompson and Aldo Zilli.
