Birmingham City annual awards held at ICC

The 46-year-old, from Hollywood, has refused to stop watching Blues despite being diagnosed with breast cancer last November.

She said: “The only game I missed was the one when I had my tubes in but apart from that I wasn’t going to let anything stop me from going to St Andrew’s.

“It’s a real honour to win the award and to come down here and meet the players who have all been brilliant.”

Double winner Kevin Phillips scooped both the top goalscorer and goal of the season prizes, the second for his 30-yard drive against Reading. The Mail’s chief sports writer and Blues reporter Colin Tattum presented Franck Queudrue with his award after he was chosen as the fans’ favourite.

Gary O’Connor collected the Moment of the Season award after he scored the goal which clinched a 2-0 win over Wolves at St Andrew’s.

Lee Carsley was named Players’ Player of the Season before Queudrue won the overall Player of the Season award. An outstanding achievement award was given to Jack Wiseman, who has had a seat on Blues board for more than 50 years.

Thousands of pounds were raised for the club’s academy with an auction of sporting memorabilia, including a pair of boxing shorts signed by Muhammad Ali, sold for £2,500.

After the ceremony, Queudrue said: “The fans’ award means the most because I am pleased that they have taken to me.”
