“At times it has been like pulling teeth, trying to secure the small measure of assistance needed to save this plant, but, with the Prime Minister’s intervention, things got moving.
“Months ago we highlighted the potential disaster that could have forced this company to the wall, taking thousands of jobs and skills along the way. Since then we’ve been working tirelessly to prevent LDV from going under because we believe our manufacturing jobs are worth fighting for.
“There’s a long way to go yet but now thoughts can turn to building a serious and successful future for this company, and to getting these men and women, who have not built a vehicle in months, back to work.”
Washwood Heath MP and Cabinet Minister Liam Byrne said: “I’m simply thrilled to bits that LDV now has a future in its sights.
“I always said LDV could make it big in the ‘green van’ market, which is why I’ve fought tooth and nail to get new investors to the table and Government help to close the deal.”
And Northfield MP Richard Burden said: “This is to be welcomed. It provides important breathing space to allow serious negotiations to go on and to reach a successful conclusion.”
