Swine Flu: Four new cases in West Midlands
May 25 2009 by Paul Suart, Birmingham Mail
FOUR new cases of swine flu have been confirmed in the West Midlands.
Three of the new cases, involving two adults and a child, were linked to contact with children at Welford Primary School in Handsworth.
One pupil from the school was diagnosed with swine flu last week and nearly two dozen others were suspected of having it.
The Health Protection Agency said the fourth new case was linked to three young members of a Worcestershire family said to have contracted the bug during a trip to Orlando in Florida.
Officials said no schools or nurseries were affected as the children had become unwell before returning to the classroom following the holiday.
A total of 11 new cases were confirmed across the UK by the Agency yesterday taking the national tally to 133 and the total in the West Midlands to 11.
The advice for anyone with flu-like symptoms was to remain at home and call a GP.
There is also a recorded swine flu information line on 0800 1513 513 or NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
