Veteran fundraiser Danny Ryan urges sponsors to come good on promises

VETERAN fundraiser Danny Ryan is urging fun runners to submit their sponsorship cash, so that it can start helping local good causes.

The dad-of-two, who was awarded an MBE for services to the community in 2001, handed in a £50 donation to the Birmingham Mail Charity Trust during the Birmingham Mail Fun Run. Although he didn’t take part, he is hoping to encourage runners to help reach the £100,000 fundraising target.

More than 1,800 people took part in the event on May 3 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and the Birmingham Mail Charity Trust.

Mr Ryan, aged 51 and from Castle Vale, said: “I was at the race as a spectator and my wife Karen was a marshal. I received a £50 donation from someone who told me to put it towards an appeal. I know the Trust does a lot for good causes in Birmingham and I want to encourage others to support the charity.”

“The fun run was a fantastic event but now it’s important that those who took part collect and hand in their money so that it can start to make a difference to local good causes in Birmingham.”
