A TRAFFIC campaigner who branded a £63 million road in south Birmingham a “total waste of money” has vowed to take his appeal to the Government.
Birmingham City Council is building a single-lane link road for the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital. But homeowners claim a dual carriageway is needed otherwise the area will be a rat-run for motorists.
Retired orthopaedic surgeon Dick Rodgers, of Meadow Brook Road, Northfield, collected more than 2,200 signatures against the road, but claims the council are pressing ahead with plans.
He is now contacting Transport Minister Lord Adonis to voice his concerns.
Mr Rodgers said: “How Birmingham City Council can believe it’s OK to ignore the complaints of more than 2,000 residents is beyond me. We are the ones who’ll be living near to this road.”
A Birmingham City Council spokesman said: “Transportation planners have obviously looked at the relevant facts and come to the conclusion that a single carriageway is sufficient.”
