Birmingham Crown Court heard when police raided Gibbs’ home in Hockley in July last year they found two revolvers under floorboards along with a silencer, ammunition and a quantity of crack cocaine and heroin.
He was arrested and later given bail but in December last year officers on patrol in Abbey Street North, Winson Green, tried to stop Gibbs suspecting he may have been dealing in drugs.
During the chase Gibbs threw another gun away which was later recovered and found to be loaded with dumdum bullets, which expand on impact.
Sentencing him on Friday, Judge Salomonsen said: “It is said by others you are a member of the Burger Bar gang and you deny this.
“You acquired three lethal weapons and the means to use them. It is quite clear that you were able to acquire these guns and live whatever lifestyle you chose by dealing in Class A drugs.
“It is said by Mr Henson that you intended to defend yourself. That begs the question who would have fired first.”
The judge said it was clear Gibbs did present a risk of serious harm to others but accepted he did not have a significant record and that the guns were not used.
Sgt Reg Collett said: “Hopefully the public can feel a little bit safer as a result.”
