A BIRMINGHAM Council worker stunned hundreds of colleagues – by sending them all an email saying: “I quit”.
The woman, who did not want to be named, decided against sending a formal resignation letter when her frustration at authority initiatives grew too much after 38 years of loyal service.
So she instead sent an email to all council house staff, and copied in the council’s deputy leader, Coun Paul Tilsley, for good measure.
Her message said: “I am not a number. I am a free person and I’m leaving The Village.
“I guess the rainy day for which I was always encouraged to save has arrived and the world trip will have to be postponed.
“Why am I going?
“Put simply, my belief in how best to achieve the council’s objectives is so far removed from that of those with the power that I no longer feel able to continue being the loyal and obedient servant that I have been for the last 38 years.”
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail at her leaving bash at city centre bar Bennetts, the 54-year-old worker said she had been overwhelmed with messages of support from her former colleagues after quitting her role as an operations manager.
“I’ve had lots and lots of emails from people saying they wish they had the guts to do it,” she said.
