Birmingham car thief was hero lifesaver

Aaron Brazier

A MAN who saved the life of a woman by pulling her out of a burning building has been jailed for his part in stealing around £350,000 of high-performance cars in a Midland-wide crime spree.

Aaron Brazier, 24, was part of a gang that targeted luxury car owners spanning six Midland counties by sneaking into their homes to steal the keys to their prized vehicles parked outside.

Many of the vehicles have never been recovered.

He was yesterday jailed for five years at Stafford Crown Court for his part in the month-long blitz.

But the Birmingham Mail can reveal that two months before he became embroiled in the car thief ring he helped rescue a woman from her burning home.

On January 24, while out driving he spotted that a house was ablaze. Beaten back by flames at the front door he went to the rear where he saw a woman collapsed on the floor.

Andrew Tucker, defending Brazier, said: “When many others would have passed by on the other side he stopped and tried to do something positive about it.”

“He took a few steps inside and saw a person lying unconscious on the floor and was able to pull her out. Had he not taken action when he did, that lady would most likely have lost her life.”
