THE dedication and commitment of Bull Ring Market traders was celebrated at a special awards ceremony in Birmingham.
Hundreds looked on as six traders were recognised for their tireless efforts and presented awards by Councillor Chauhdry Rashid, deputy Lord Mayor of Birmingham, and local radio guru Ed Doolan from a stage outside the markets in Edgbaston Street.
The Best Outdoor Trader category went to C. Sutton Flowers, Conway Pile, of C.P Vickers fishmongers, won the Lifetime Achiever award, and Ajaz Beg, of Bull Ring Phone Centre, took the Trader of the Year award as voted for by Birmingham Mail readers.
Posh Bedding in the Rag Market won Best Newcomer, Pearce’s Shellfish scooped both the Best Presented Stall and Best Indoor Trader titles and Bull Ring Pet Centre took the Best Rag Market Trader crown.
Coun Rashid said: “When we are asleep in bed these people are setting up their stalls.
“I started life as a market trader and know what it’s like.
“I’m very proud of these people and thank them on behalf of Birmingham City Council for their wonderful contribution to the life of the city.”
