MEET a Midland zoo’s junior jumbo born after his mum underwent fertility treatment.

The unnamed baby is just two weeks old but already tips the scales at almost 16st and stands more than 3ft tall.

Bosses at Twycross Zoo, near Tamworth, made a trunk call to announce their new arrival, who came into the world after his mum, Noorjahan, was artificially inseminated.

Rather than bring a bull into the zoo’s herd, bosses chose to fly experts in from Germany to inseminate Noorjahan with a sample taken from the bull elephant, Emmett, at Whipsnade Zoo.

A zoo spokeswoman said: “Our ‘little boy’ is strong and feisty while remaining under the vigilant eye of his protective mother. Lucky members of the public may be able to catch a quick glimpse of him.”
