A PENSIONER has left her entire £172,000 estate to Birmingham Dogs Home.
Freda Deakin, a former businesswoman from Moseley, ordered that the Digbeth dogs centre should receive the proceeds from the sale of her property.
Dog-lover Freda died from lung cancer in 2007 at the age of 75, but it has taken more nearly two years to sell her former home in Southam Road, Hall Green.
Now the bungalow has sold at auction for £180,000 and the remaining cash after the sale is now being passed on to the charity.
Freda was married to the late John Deakin and the couple had no children.
Over the years she offered a home for several dogs from the shelter. Her last dog, Dolly, is now being looked after by Freda’s close friend Margaret Flynn.
Colin Butlin, friend and executor of Freda’s will, said she was adamant that her legacy should go to the charity.
He said: “I met John and Freda in the early 70s. They ran a haulage business from their home in Moseley, and were well known characters around Birmingham wholesale market and the city in general.
“They were true Brummies, kind hearted and generous to a fault, they just loved people.
