“It’s important that all readers of every ethnicity and religion back the campaign.”
Villa fan Prince William has already backed the Birmingham bid alongside other famous supporters including comedian Jasper Carrott, former England manager Graham Taylor and Kerrang Radio DJ Kate Lawler.
Steve Hollingworth, lead officer with the city council’s Birmingham Bid Committee, said it was vital to have the Birmingham Mail on board.
He said: “This campaign is all about winning the hearts and minds of the people in the West Midlands and the Birmingham Mail can play a crucial role in reaching people across the region.”
Coun Mike Whitby, council leader believes the city would be a great host.
“We’ve got everything, the transport infrastructure, the facilities, the expertise and of course a huge passion for sport,” he said.
The bid has received a sweet boost from Cadbury World where staff have created chocolate footballs branded with the Back the Birmingham Bid logo.
Youngsters from Shenley Academy in Northfield were invited to Bournville to try icing the logo on to the footballs, which will not be released for general sale.
Cadbury World staff and Shenley pupils have uploaded videos to the One Kick for Birmingham campaign.
