A £765 million takeover of cash-stricken Birmingham transport giant National Express has fallen through after four months of negotiations, it was revealed today.

A consortium led by National Express’s biggest shareholder announced it had withdrawn its offer for the struggling group.

Spain’s Cosmen family, had been working with buyout company CVC on the deal since July.
