Andrea Bocelli apologises for cancelling Birmingham concert

SINGER Andrea Bocelli today apologised to the thousands of fans who were left disappointed after the last minute cancellation of his Birmingham concert.
Speaking exclusively to the Birmingham Mail, Bocelli said he knew the decision to postpone the concert at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena last month had been a ‘disappointment’ but he had been unable to sing due to bronchitis.
Audience members, many of whom had travelled hundreds of miles across the country to see the Italian tenor perform live, were only told the concert was cancelled due to Bocelli suffering a throat infection at 7.30pm – the time the music was about to begin.
Although the news was initially met with a round of applause fans then inundated the Birmingham Mail telephone lines and website www.birminghammail.net to complain about the late notice of the cancellation.
But Bocelli said he had been left with no choice because he could not give them a less than hundred per cent performance.
“I understand because everyone hopes when they go to a concert that the singer will sing but the singer is also a man and sometimes things can happen,” the 51-year-old tenor said.
Andrea promised Birmingham audiences a new concert on November 4 worth waiting for.
“I will do all I can in order to make up for the accident of last time,” he added.
