Places left for Birmingham's Panto Horse Grand National

Last year's Pantomime Horse Grand National.

JOCKEYS are needed to take part in this year’s Pantomime Horse Grand National along Broad Street.

The seventh annual event will be held on November 22 and organisers are once again looking for people to don the horse costumes for the city-centre race.

Last year 50 competitors took part in the event which included jumps and obstacles to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal.

Tony Hyde, managing director of event sponsors Thomas Vale, said: “As a local business working in partnership with Birmingham City Council, Thomas Vale are as proud this year as the first to support this event on behalf of the city and the Lord Mayor’s Charities. The event brings together local businesses and people from across Birmingham and the Midlands to work as one team for the benefit of those less fortunate than ourselves.”

Coun Martin Mullaney, city council leisure boss, said: “This is a great opportunity for people to get active and enjoy some fun in aid of the good causes supported by the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal.”

The entry fee is £50 and money will go to help research into pancreatic cancer, engineering scholarships, young people’s homelessness charity St Basil’s and Women Acting in Today’s Society.

Races will start at 11.30am and run until 3pm starting outside the Hyatt hotel.
