Beverley Knight bursts into tears on stage at Symphony Hall

Despite her personal problems – perhaps even because of them – Beverley pulled off a thrilling show, unleashing a vocal range and a mix of styles and sweet grooves unrivalled on the UK soul scene.

There were simply belting renditions of hits such as Come As You Are, a rocked out Piece Of My Heart, the full funk throttle of Gold Chain, from 100%, and the irresistible pop of the latest single, In Your Shoes, deftly sampling Orange Juice’s 80s gem Rip It Up.

A beautifully pared down version of Shoulda Woulda Coulda, performed like a church confessional, was a rare treat on a live stage but was perfectly in keeping with a night of blistering emotion and undiluted singing talent.

A 100 per cent beautiful Knight.

VERDICT: 5/5
