SHOPPERS and visitors to Birmingham city centre were left frightened and shocked when a fight erupted in a public square.

A man suffered facial injuries in the fracas in Victoria Square and was taken to hospital where he was later discharged.

Police on patrol in the area were able to break up the brawl, which involved several men, before more injuries were sustained.

Officers arrested seven men nearby on suspicion of assault. They were released without charge.
