HE’S behind you Joan! Birmingham actor Wayne Fitzsimmons has stepped into the glittering heels of Hollywood legend Joan Collins.

As the 77-year-old Dynasty star has been struck down with flu, the 28-year-old, who grew up in Maypole, got the biggest break of his career taking on her role of evil Queen Rat in panto Dick Whittington at the Hippodrome.

The former headboy at Baverstock School said: “I had a call at 9 o’clock in the morning from my company manager that I was to go on that day. It was scary I had very little time to get to grips with the part.”

Wayne has also had to get used to sitting through an hour of make-up and wearing similar costumes to Joan’s glitzy numbers before an audience who’ve included his mum and an old schoolfriend.

“There’s lots of sequins and tiaras,” said Wayne, whose dream job is landing a part in Coronation Street. “It’s been the biggest challenge so far. It’s really stretched me and taken me out of my comfort zone.
