ORGANISERS of Birmingham’s Gay Pride event are making ground-breaking bids to twin with Berlin Pride for this year and host Euro Pride in 2014.
Birmingham Pride is the third-largest free event of its kind in the country but would become the biggest in Europe in 2014 if it won the title.
A proposal has been submitted to the European Parliament for the event, which could attract 500,000 people.
The organising committee revealed the plans ahead of its biggest festival yet with 300,000 revellers expected on May 28 and 29 now venue capacities have increased.
Patron John Beard said: “It will be the first time any prides in the UK twin with any city, let alone a European city. We’re well into the talks and we’re hoping to have it done for this year.
“It will fetch in an enormous amount of business and visitors from Berlin, boost hotels and spending in shops and of course widens the community.”
