Solihull pensioner receives letter saying he is dead

THERE’S plenty of life in pensioner Kenneth Jones – despite blundering tax officials declaring him dead.

The 84-year-old widower was stunned to receive a letter from HM Revenue & Customs referring to the “estate of the late Mr K Jones”.

The document said officials wanted to check “the tax position to the date of death” and other details.

Kenneth, a former company director, from Touchwood Hall Close, Solihull, said he was stunned and angry to receive the letter and had still not been offered an apology more than a month later.

“I was really dumbstruck and showed it to my nephew who had a word with someone in the department.

“I think I should get some sort of compensation for the stress. How would they like to get a letter saying they were dead?

“I have complained and all I asked them for was a letter of apology and I haven’t had that.

“I thought they would have said sorry.
