Birmingham City WAGs near the end of their Great Wall of China adventure

Four Midland WAGs continued their Great Wall of China adventure by conquering one of its most historic and remote outposts in aid of the Meningitis Trust. It was a milestone moment as Birmingham City wives Becky Doyle, Melissa Derbyshire, Paula Parnaby and Leicester City WAG Hayley Gallagher reached the end of day four – leaving just one day to go. Birmingham Mail reporter CHRISTINA SAVVAS is with them every step of the way.

The WAGs at the Heavenly Ladder on the Great Wall Of China

IT MAY sound cheesy but climbing to the top of the famous Heavenly Ladder on this amazing man-made Wonder of the World evoked a lot of emotion for the WAGs.

As we reached the top of the moutainside at a steep 80-degree gradient, we felt humbled by the courage of our diverse band of travelling companions.

From a 57-year-old woman in our group, walking in memory of her husband, to a 32-year-old man given a ten per cent chance of survival after a car crash, this was a moment to feel grateful about what we all have.

Paula became tearful as she reached the top of the wall.

She said: “It reminded me of what we are here for. Sometimes we forget because we are so busy concentrating on the trek.”
