A WOMAN has died after being hit by a freight train in Sutton Park.
The woman was killed on tracks just over half a mile from the Streetly Gate entrance to the park.
The collision came at about 10am yesterday.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival at the scene, crews found a pedestrian and a train that had been in a serious collision.
“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene.”
A passer-by, from Hodge Hill, who did not want to be named, said an air ambulance had landed at the scene.
The 64-year-old former train driver, who had been cycling with his grandson, added: “We were advised not to go any nearer and were informed by air ambulance crew there had been a fatality.”
A British Transport Police spokeman said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
