1. Edgbaston university student spied on women and filmed them in Bullring toilets

A BEARDED pervert donned a mask and wig to spy on women using the ladies toilets at Birmingham’s showpiece Bullring mall.

Student Joel Hardman was rumbled after a shopper reported seeing someone “dressed like a mannequin” walk into the lavatories.

He later emerged from a locked cubicle and admitted performing a sex act.

And Birmingham Magistrates’ Court heard Hardman’s phone contained three images of women’s feet taken beneath cubicle doors and an audio recording of a flushing toilet.

2. Video: The moment raiders used a JCB to rob bank


THIS is the moment when a ruthless gun-toting gang used a stolen digger to smash their way into a Birmingham bank.

The images show the council JCB ploughing into the side of the UAE Exchange to create a hole for masked robbers to clamber through and hold up staff.

Birmingham Crown Court heard the gang had earlier kidnapped gravediggers from nearby Handsworth Cemetery and stolen the digger from them.


This footage has been released as police reveal the hunt is still on for the remaining members of the gang who have so far escaped their clutches.

3. City Mosque condemns Royal Wedding demonstration planned by extremist hate group

A BIRMINGHAM Mosque has condemned plans by a Muslim extremist group to disrupt the Royal Wedding by holding a demonstration.

A radical group called Muslims Against Crusades has threatened to hold a riot as Kate and Wills exchange vows in Westminster Abbey.

In an announcement on its website the group has demanded that the Prince relinquish his position as a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Airforce and role in the Royal Family.

The statement concludes: “We promise that should they refuse, then the day which the nation has been dreaming of for so long will become a nightmare.”

The fanatical group previously hit the headlines when one of its members burned poppies near London’s Royal Albert Hall on Armistice Day last November.

4. Red-faced Labour bins tory pig-jibe leaflets 


HUNDREDS of election leaflets at the centre of a “Fat Tory” row have been destroyed – on the orders of a Birmingham Labour Party official.

Kingstanding ward Labour chairman, Hugh McCallion, took action after party members posted circulars through doors comparing Conservative candidate Gary Sambrook to a pig eating from a trough, with a headline asking: “Who ate all the pies?”.

Mr Sambrook, aged 21, was accused of “filling his face” at taxpayers’ expense by eating Council House meals meant for councillors only.

Mr McCallion, a former city councillor, admitted he hadn’t seen the leaflet before it was distributed.

5. City centre chaos as man threatens to jump from building


A MAN brought chaos to sections of the city centre for hours to when he threatened to jump to his death yesterday.

The man stood on the top level of Pershore Street Car Park opposite the Arcadian and Bullring Shopping Centre for nearly three hours before police negotiators talked him down.

A network of roads was forced to close around the busy entertainment and shopping area, causing buses to be diverted and a number of surrounding car parks were cordoned off.

The man, who is believed to have climbed up just before 1pm, was eventually talked down to safety at 3.35pm.
