A GOOD Samaritan was recovering in hospital on Sunday night after he was stabbed in the neck when he stood up to a gang of thugs who torched a car in a Birmingham street.
John Glynn was stabbed and beaten up in Caldwell Road, Bordesley Green, after he confronted three men who had crashed a car into a neighbour’s vehicle.
The 46-year-old dad staggered to a neighbour’s door for help following the incident at 6am on Sunday.
Police are treating the incident as attempted murder.
Later, his family spoke of their shock and said he was lucky to be alive.
Nephew Daniel Chilton, 27, from Chelmsley Wood, said: “His throat was slashed and they stabbed him in the head with some kind of blunt object.
“Doctors have stapled his throat and are now waiting for the swelling to go down. His injuries are really, bad but he is awake and talking. He is very drowsy though, so not everything makes sense.
“He told us that he woke up at 6am and heard a crash so he went outside to see if everyone was okay and to see if he could help.
“The next thing his neck is slashed and three of them pile on top of him punching and kicking. He was only trying to be a good Samaritan. He is lucky to be alive.
“We have all been in pieces. My mum and his partner Jackie have been so upset. My uncle, known as Johnny, is well known and respected in the community.”
Mr Glynn, a car salesman lives alone, but has a three-year old daughter who visits regularly.
Neighbours spoke of their shock at the incident. Land Rover employee Mohammed Shafi, aged 55, opened the door to find his neighbour covered in blood.
