A CALLOUS cat owner sobbed in the dock as a court heard how she left her pet wedged in a window to die in agony.
Birmingham Magistrates’ Court was told that Samantha Scott’s cat was trapped across the chest inside a window frame and probably died from asphyxiation.
RSPCA inspectors who forced their way into Scott’s empty second-floor flat at Queens Tower, Duddeston, also found a dog, covered in mange and fleas, which had been left to starve, the court heard.
Gaynor Sutton, prosecuting, said the 37-year-old’s flat was sealed up for at least three days in March, when the RSPCA was alerted to a report of abandoned animals.
Mrs Sutton said: “She [Scott] mentioned she had been going down every couple of days and knew the seals were on and actually replaced the seals herself.”
Scott admitted failing to protect the cat from suffering and leaving the dog, Bonnie, to starve for days at a time over the space of a month.
