Motorcyclist dies after Edgbaston crash

A MOTORCYCLIST has died after being fatally injured in a early morning smash with a car at a busy Birmingham junction.

The 38-year-old casualty was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following the collision at the junction of Icknield Port Road and Gillot Road, in Edgbaston.

A West Midlands police spokesman said the rider of the motorcycle “unfortunately died” of his injuries a short time later.

The collision, involving a black Citreon C2 and green Kawasaki ZX600, happened at 6.45am yesterday.

The driver of car, said to be a 24-year-old man from Handsworth, was not injured in the incident. The police spokesman said officers from the Collision Investigation Unit had now launched an inquiry into the cause of the crash.

The road was closed for a short time while the area was examined.
