FAMOUS faces from Birmingham and the Black Country are backing the RSPCA’s appeal to build the first national animal hospital and rescue centre.
Backed by the Birmingham Mail the charity needs to raise £3 million for the flagship site, due to open in Frankley next year.
Slade frontman Noddy Holder, who adopted a dog one Christmas to help out staff at an animal pound over the busy season, has backed the appeal.
The 65-year-old, born in Walsall, said: “It’s a great idea, I’m all for anything that cares for animals.
“I don’t know why people have animals if they’re going to mistreat them. It’s disgusting, especially after Christmas when people dump them on the streets.”
The mongrel he took in was called Banger after a character Noddy provided the voice for in Bob the Builder.
“The dogs had no names, they just had a number tag. He was beautiful,” he added.
Fuzzbox lead singer Victoria Perks, also known as ViX, is the proud owner of a black Labrador puppy, Elvis, and a black and white cat, Princess Pussy Galore.
“They are very well trained and loved!” said the 42-year-old from Moseley, currently on tour promoting her EP, Walk With Me.
