ASTON Villa will hold an internal inquiry into football ace Barry Bannan who was quizzed on suspicion of drink driving after a car crashed into the central reservation of a Midland motorway.
Police were forced to temporarily close part of the M1 in Nottinghamshire after a Range Rover hit the barrier, near to junction 26 on Sunday morning.
Midlfielder Bannan, 21, was with Shrewsbury Town striker James Collins, 20 – a former Villa player – when they were both stopped by police as they walked through nearby Bulwell, Notts, after the 5.30am smash.
Both men were later released on police bail pending further police inquiries.
The crash came hours after Bannan had turned out for Villa as the side lost the crunch Midland derby against rivals West Bromwich Albion 2-1.
He was not at the club’s open training session yesterday.
